Briscoe Group and Cure Kids

Much of Cure Kids' funding is generated through their relationships with local and international businesses, such as ourselves.

Briscoe Group has made a serious commitment to support Cure Kids financially, while also including the charity in many practical aspects of our business.

For example the Briscoe Group annual charity golf day, raised $116,000. We provided products, service and staff, and along with the generous support of our suppliers made this a memorable day. We also participate in their events and leverage our own business relationships to help the growth of this charity.

About Cure Kids

Cure Kids is the public face of the Child Health Research Foundation. Over the last 30 years Cure Kids has dedicated millions of dollars to funding medical research for children with life-threatening illnesses. By better understanding these illnesses Cure Kids aims to help improve the everyday lives of seriously-ill children and one day, find the cures that we all hope for. But it takes money - and lots of it to find these cures.

World First Breakthroughs:

Cure Kids has helped fund research which includes world-first breakthroughs into:

  • childhood leukaemia
  • cot death
  • hole-in-the-heart babies
  • cystic fibrosis
  • genetic birth abnormalities

The findings from these projects and others have saved thousands of children's lives; lives that would have otherwise been lost. For thousands of other children, Cure Kids-funded research has helped create a longer and better quality of life.

Over $14 Million has been invested in vital medical research including:

  • Cystic Fibrosis - nearly 400 New Zealanders suffer from this incurable lung disease
  • Childhood Leukaemkia - childhood cancer is the leading cause of death in children after accidental death in New Zealand.
  • Pneumonia - NZ has the highest hospital admission rate for childhood pneumonia in the western world. It costs the country $7million p.a.
  • Perinatal Research - Care for pre-term babies costs $50million + per annum
  • Asthma in Children - the biggest cause of hospital admissions in New Zealand, 550,000 school days lost each year to asthma
  • Genetic Research - 1 in 30 babies born in NZ will have some genetic birth malformation
  • Heart Disease - over 600 babies are born with heart defects each year - at least 300 will need corrective surgery - Cure Kids is funding research into a genetic heart disease that claims at least 40 lives a year.
  • Type 1 Diabetes - Over 200 new children are diagnosed each year. It costs an estimated $1,000,000 to manage a Type 1 Diabetes child including the secondary complications in later life
  • Kidney Disease - a kidney transplant costs between $80,000 to $110,000, we're funding new research that will hopefully improve the lives of these children with kidney disease

Today, Cure Kids are more committed than ever to help find answers to the many cruel, life-threatening illnesses that devastate the lives of young children and their families.
